The production
A bright, high-energy score with its heart firmly inside the comedy. The production balanced bold 1980s musical colours with the warmth and sincerity of Robbie and Julia’s story.

Musical Director's vision
The sound of
The Wedding Singer
My priority was to make the style vivid without turning it into parody. The score needed the punch, sheen and rhythmic confidence of 1980s pop, but it also had to soften naturally when the story became intimate.
From the keyboard, I could keep the musical direction physically connected to the band and stage. That immediacy helped the large company numbers move with precision while allowing the quieter songs to breathe.
Creative focus
- 01
A recognisable 1980s palette with the energy of live theatre
- 02
Strong rhythmic alignment across band, cast and choreography
- 03
Contrast between large ensemble sequences and intimate songs
- 04
Conducting and Keyboard 1 combined from within the pit
